Doyle Bramhall
Doyle Bramhall, one of the legendary Austin drummers and a noted songwriter, passed this morning. He was 62.

Unconfirmed reports on Facebook noted that Bramhall had been under the weather for some time. He had recently had pneumonia. A longtime fixture on the Austin scene, Bramhall was living in Alpine.

Bramhall played Miller Outdoor Theatre July 22.

The Last Roundup: Decemberists, Giant Battle Monster, the Hates, Ghost Mountain, etc.

The Decemberists are coming! The Decemberists are coming!

Aren't people supposed to play golf and mow their lawn when they go into retirement?

Giant Battle Monster finished recording over the weekend.

The Hates are playing at Gallery M.

Ghost Mountain: the latest to hit Joe Mathlete's Living Room.

The Last Roundup: "H-Town's Delight," Fat Tony's New LP, Something Fierce on Tour and More

Lords of the Loop have definitely out done themselves this time, with a chart explaining all the various cats in the human and animal kingdoms. It's everything you could want to know.

IndieHouston features HPMA Best Male Vocals nominee Cornbreadd for his participation in DJ Dave Wrangler's "H-Town's Delight" (above).

Remember this guy? Slow Poisoner does an interview with 29-95.

Fat Tony releases an album, The Creation of Fat Tony, and weworemasks is all over it.

The Last Roundup: Broken-NCYDE, Jenny Lewis, H.A.W.K. & Z-Ro, Something Fierce and More

29-95's Joe Mathlete introduces the world to "crunkcore" artist Broken-NCYDE.

Prima Donna meltdown or not, Jenny Lewis still has talent. If only she had manners. We Wore Masks screens her "See Fernando" video.

Southern rap is still alive. Thankfully, Cocaine Blunts knows this, giving us H.A.W.K. and Z-Ro's "Diggin' the South."

Houstonist remembers Dave Rask.

The Last Roundup: A Palin Resignation Playlist, Texas Heat Fizzles, Mathletes LP Release and More

youngmammalsflier-381x590.jpg
There's always that one thing that makes the week great, even though it's barely begun. This week, it comes courtesy of Houston Music Examiner David Sadof's three-part playlist for Sarah Palin's resignation.

The Texas Heat Music Festival's goose was cooked, says 29-95.

Thought things were slow over on Weworemasks, then these remixes (Jay Z, Kid Cudi, E-40, etc.) came up.

Post-holiday Mondays are always the worst. That probably explains the Black Heart Procession MP3 in Dryvetyme's Media Monday list.

Need something to do this Thursday? Young Mammals kickoff a tour at Mango's. IndieHouston has the details.

We just love running this Wild Moccasins picture... can't you tell?

Something Fierce released the rest of the trio's tour dates on Hands Up Houston.

Lords of the Loop pay poetic tribute to Def Leppard via haiku.

29-95 takes a look at the Wild Moccasins' (above) tour diary. Exactly three weeks until the band plays Houston again, and we can't wait.

The Last Roundup: White Lies, Black Sheep Premiere, A Hearty 'Man-Drink,' In the Red, GM vs. Evan Dando, Charles Hamilton and More

IndieHouston invites you to Friday's screening (and musical performance) of White Lies, Black Sheep.

My week has barely begun, but I think 29-95.com has already made it great with this quote from its review of Dundee Brewery's Craft Pack:

"At its core, beer is the quintessential man-drink. It's specifically engineered to slake the thirst of salt-of-the-earth, hard-plowing, manly men. It's what the body craves after a day filled with croc-wrasslin' and dingo-eatin'."

Cocaine Blunts adds In the Red to its A-Town Rapp compilation.

The Last Roundup: A Birthday Blog, Mic Skills, Listenlisten, UGK, Riff Tiffs and More

HMH Birthday.jpg
Happy birthday, Houston's Most Hated! They're celebrating next Saturday at Numbers with The Juan MacLean, Switzerland's the Field and a bunch of local DJs.

29-95.com has a nice chat with local MC Mic Skills, mostly about his new album Defiant.

We Wore Masks caught the freshly reunited Blink-182 (Woodlands Pavilion, September 23) playing "All the Small Things" on The Tonight Show. Can't wait for Conan to take over!

Space City Rock checks out the new Listenlisten, Hymns from Rhodesia. Readitreadit.

Looks like Houstonist is having trouble making up its mind about what shows to see this weekend. Come to think of it, so are we.

The Last Roundup: New Wilco LP, Tori Amos, G.I. Joe Junkies, D Rose and More

wilco the album.jpg

Once again Rocks Off has been scanning Houston's music-oriented blogs so you don't have to. But go ahead and do it anyway.

Breakfast On Tour has a link to stream the new Wilco album, conveniently called Wilco (The Album) and due June 30.

Like Rocks Off often does, Dryvetyme Onlyne has been thinking a lot about why people our age are so hung up on attracted to classic rock, specifically in the context of the hair-farming new The Lonely H album.

Show List H/Town is searchable. Mostly we just like that it's there.

The Last Roundup: Paul Weller, South Memphis String Band, Indian Jewelry, Robert Ellis and More

Here's another installment of what's been blowing up other Houston music Web sites' skirts recently. If you'd like us to look yours over (your site, not your skirt, though we can talk about that too), email hprocksoff@gmail.com.

Breakfast on Tour caught the brand-new South Memphis String Band at the Continental Club April 25 (above): "Their stage interaction was as natural as any band that had been playing together for years."

29-95.com gave some love to Black Joe Lewis, whose Honeybears (featuring Houston's own Ian Varley) should raze Walter's to the ground tomorrow night. Nice story, but more doll porn please.

Houston's Most Hated has a big boner for Ghostland Observatory's show at Sam Houston Race Park Saturday. Lots of MP3s and a nifty player.

Speaking of, sort of, local singer-songwriter Robert Ellis caused Free Press Houston's Omar Afra to rhapsodize, "If only I had a vagina."
