"When the band Extra Golden, which includes two Americans and two Kenyans, approached Barack Obama for help guiding them through the Visa process, the then-senator with Kenyan ancestry was kind enough to help them out. The band was then to able to tour and subsequently record the album Hera Ma Nono, which includes the song "Obama." Extra Golden played The Orange Show last fall."
In 2007 and 2008, River Oaks Theater would occasionally hold live midnight shows. They were the best of times...
"Dead Roses, misfit dentist elf, Winter Wonderglam 2007. Nikon FA, Kodak Tri-X."
"Tri-X 400. Nikon FA, F1.4 at 1/60 of a second. I accidentally overcooked the negative in a D76 soup that was too hot to begin with, but the resulting effect really illuminates the experience even with the scance information in the composition - his closed eyes, the microphone camouflaging his gaping mouth.
"Nonetheless, what we have here is Fred Cole, lead singer of the Pierced Arrows, who prior to the Arrows formed the legendary Dead Moon along with his wife Toody Cole (also in Pierced Arrows). Cole would enlighten and frighten the audience, like any good pastor, singing with the fury, fire and jubilation of a punk-rock gospel singer. This show was absolutely enrapturing."
"The sign that Pedro is wiping his ass with says 'Pasadena rules.'"

"Gay Marriage in my "studio". Uh, that would be Rudyard's men's room before the hideous striped paint job. The band returns to Rudz (and the bathroom) tomorrow night. Nikon FA, available light, 1/30 of a second, 20mm lens."
"Part of the Southmore House series. For me this photograph is all about that tattered wool jacket - this is as close as I get to fashion photography. The Quarentines will be performing as part of the 'Punxmas Fest' at White Swan Friday."
[Rocks Off asked local music photographess supreme and Mutant Hardcore Flower Hour co-host Rosa Guerrero if she'd be willing to periodically open up her vast archives for our readers' enjoyment, and she graciously agreed. Here are her first submissions.]
"The Secret Prostitutes perform at a warehouse on Commerce Street: This show was busted up by the cops pretty early on. Pity. It was a beautiful, cold, clear October night. They are performing tonight at Boondocks."
