Chamillionaire continues to market himself as one of the smarter rappers in Houston, speaks on independent promotion within the music industry at Stanford.
The Single of the Week reminded us of the same-named song from Dallas' B. Hardy and Houston's Dustin Prestige that was passed to us some weeks ago. Listen here. They're both fun, but one is better than the other. We'll let you decide which.

After watching the actual video for this song about 15 times, were able to deduce that some might consider it to be fairly derogatory towards women, so we decided to use this version instead. You're free to find it on your own though. And if you like butt cracks, you'll be happy that you did.

Of course Bun B is on Wale's CD. Bun B is on everything, everywhere. He is all things. Matter of fact, he's sitting right next to us right now hyping us up as we type this. Say hello, Bun. "Hello. UGK fo' life." See, told you.

Note(s): Yes, this is a remake of the same-named song from Fabolous' Loso's Way. Yes, it lists Lil Ray as the featured artist but is actually Lil' Wayne rapping/singing. And yes, the unintentional juxtaposition of the video's "Look How Much Money I Have" premise with the "Look How Much Money We Clearly Did Not Have to Spend On This Video" vibe is humorous.

Shortly after the Trae Day shootings fiasco, we tagged along with Trae to Austin as part of an upcoming article we're still working on. Prior to leaving, we were hanging out at his house - we're not saying we're BFFs or anything, but that is something that BFFs do - and he was working on a remake of that Drake and Weezy song where they say "it's okay" about 100 times. Audio of his take (finally) hit the Web this weekend. It's dope. Listen to it. And like it, because we feel kinda like that might make us cooler somehow.

Here's the album version of that Royce track Bun is on. Cool stuff.
Before this past weekend, we had never heard of Atlanta rapper Donnis, but we're going to assume he is either terribly unsmart, or a big, big fan of irony, seeing as how he just signed with the imprint Fool's Gold Record Label.

[This is another leaked single from the phantom Z-Ro album we wrote about last Friday. If this does happen to be Heroin repackaged, do not be surprised to find Ro in a dumpster somewhere very soon. J. Prince does not fuck around.]
Wire To Wire:
Cham is letting fans decide the title of his next album. As expected, the choices they offered up are pretty awful. And somehow they landed on Venom as the title, which was the title of the album that he shelved in lieu of this one. Nice work, guys.

The video for Drake's harped-on single "Forever" came out. Hype directed it. Watch it or don't. Whatev. It won't affect your life any. On a separate note: This song is a lot better than we remembered it being. Em and 'Ye destroy their verses. And Drake ain't so bad either.
Sach O from Passion of the Weiss destroyed Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon album. Read the review. The dude is smart and stylistically makes some good points (even if we couldn't disagree with him more; the album is almost great).

Fat Tony and Nosaprise are, hands down, two of our favorite underground Houston rappers. We can't say enough good things about them. Unless we're talking about their freestyle battle rap showing, that is. Then we totally can. Wire To Wire
Despite what you initially want to think about Cham's new single "Good Morning," it is very cool. We know people are going to try and hate on it like, "This sucks. Pimp C sampled 'Free Fallin'' like ten years ago." To which we'll reply, "Actually, it was three years ago, and this is a completely different song. There is no play on the free falling tagline, it's way more melodic and, production-wise, way more airy."
But on the cool, Houston rappers, there are more rock songs out there. Imagine Cham over "Love Gun" by KISS. Or maybe Bob Seger's "Night Moves." Oh man, he would destroy "Night Moves."

Video for Jay-Z's "D.O.A." Very nice. Hova and Harvey Keitel dappin' each other up just might be the nexus of cool. And at the middle, when they're playing cards and Jay asks Harvey if he's okay, and Harvey responds, "What makes you think I'm otherwise?" Seriously. Who thinks to say stuff like that?

Wire To WireMichael passed. Three thoughts:
1. Michael was one of the greatest, most innovative musicians of all time, loved immensely by (it seemed) the entire world for the better part of his youth. So we're very curious to see how much the molestation allegations will taint his legacy. He was never found guilty - he settled out of court for $22 million, which does seem a curious thing for an innocent man to do- but O.J. wasn't found guilty either, and things didn't work out very well for him. Then again, O.J. couldn't moonwalk.

Pink is upset at The Kanye because of his appreciation for fur. Maybe she should be more concerned with having only sold 17 albums in the last five years.
We poke at The Kanye periodically here at Turning the Screw - mostly only when he's done something asinine though, like grow a shag - but let us be clear on this: he rules ass. We heard "Can't Tell Me" again for the first time in about a year this past weekend and, Jesus Christ, that is an amazing song.
