Whatever: Houston's Getting Another Music Fest Next Month

Is Houston ready to sweat out two more days of music barely two months after Free Press Summer Fest, only this time with a little more laughter?

We may be about to find out. Wednesday afternoon, a new festival calling itself Houston Whatever Fest popped up online and on social media, promising music and comedy (and more) on August 9 and 10 somewhere called EaDo Party Park. Not sure if that's a thing, but the Facebook event page lists the same address as Warehouse Live.

Announced headliners include MuteMath, Andrew WK, Kreayshawn, Blonde Redhead, Filter, The Hold Steady, the Queers, the Dwarves, Kreayshawn, Helmet, Rebirth Brass Band, Local H, Cheap Girls and DJ sets by Passion Pit, Neon Indian and Boys and Girls Club. Houston acts on the lineup so far are We Were Wolves, Catch Fever, Another Run, Knights of the Fire Kingdom, Josh Dupont, Otenki, Fox and Cats, Oceans of Slumber, LIMB, Square and Compass and others.

Other information is a little sketchy. The Web site, houstonwhateverfest.com, appears to be about half-built. (Seems like someone may have jumped the gun a bit yesterday.) According to Josh Wilson at Warehouse Live, the only tickets that are being released at this time are two-day passes for $55. They should be on sale at noon Friday, he added.

Like Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest but unlike FPSF, though, Whatever Fest has added a significant comedy component, with names like TJ Miller, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Kumail, Nanjiani, Iliza Shlesinger, Jonah Ray, Bob Biggerstaff, Sam Demaris, Dem Dam Dames, etc.

Rocks Off should be speaking with Jason Price, one of the Whatever Fest promoters, soon and will hopefully have a little more information about this thing then.

So we're going with EaDo? Warehouse District or Old Chinatown weren't good enough? Filter sticks out like a sore thumb in this lineup.
