We won't keep you long, but we wanted to pass along some information about this year's Houston Press Music Awards ceremony now that we have it.

The 2014 HPMA ceremony is set for Thursday, August 7 at Warehouse Live. The ceremony itself is invitation-only for nominees and their guests, but at 9 p.m. doors will open to the public for the HPMA concert. So far the Suffers and the Tontons, both multiple HPMA nominees this year, are on board; another few acts should be added in the next couple of weeks.

Sadly, we've decided to discontinue the annual nominee showcase.

Tickets for the HPMA concert will be available next Tuesday (July 8) at 10 a.m. via this presale; use the code ROCKSOFF. The general public can buy them starting 10 a.m. next Friday, July 11. Prices are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Don't forget to vote. Please vote. Vote right here.

And, before we release you for the long weekend, come back Monday for another HPMA announcement. A lot of you have been asking, and we think you'll like it. We hope so.

Have a great July 4 weekend.

Sadly, we've decided to discontinue being interested in the HPMAs.

This sucks. The showcase has been one of my favorite musical events to attend the last two years.

We love the showcase and always looked forward to it, I have a feeling that attendance and ticket sales was not satisfactory to the amount of work HP puts in it. But if it must end maybe it can be reborn on a completely different way, say a big show for the winners a week or so after the ceremony with a "hall of fame" inductee as a headliner?

The showcase really is one of the biggest events of the year for local scene. A thursday night concert isn't the most attractive.

Was this a money thing, attendance, or a staff thing or what?

Showcase was a lot of fun last year, this is a shame.

Wow. No showcase? I had a relative visiting from out of state last year and via the showcase was able to show him the depth and diversity of Houston music. What a loss.

Please reconsider the cancellation of the HPMA showcase.  Houston's got some music baby - bring it on out!!!
