Welcome to The Rocks Off 200, our portrait gallery of the most compelling profiles and personalities in the far-flung Houston music community -- a lot more than just musicians, but of course they're in there too. See previous entries in the Rocks Off 100 at this link.

Who? Trent Icaza is a DJ and tastemaker known around town as Dayta of the Almighty Krackernuttz. He's been active on the scene for about ten years.

Home Base: Dayta spins at The Flat every Friday with one of his crewmates, DJ Klinch, playing the best of "That Good Good." He also hosts and plays Top Notch, a monthly party at Boondocks with DJ Sober from Dallas. That particular event, held on the last Saturday of each month, has been going strong for four years. He has also been DJing at the H-town Sneaker Summit since it kicked off in 2004.

Why Do You Stay In Houston? "Rent's cheap and there's so much damn good food in this town!" he says.

"I feel that Houston's got a lot of potential because of its economic benefits," Dayta adds. "It's even grown culturally. Lately there's so many dope food spots -- you can get anything from traditional BBQ at Gatlin's to delicious ramen from Tiger Den in Bellaire!" #fatboy

Good War Story:"This one time, OG Bobby Trill and I were getting ready for our first gig at The Proletariat," he recalls. "It might have been in 2005. We ran across town to pick up DJ gear and we were already running late. Man, we were so excited to perform that night! The Houston Press even ran an ad for us that night.

"When it came down to it," he goes on, "we didn't even need all the gear we brought with us, and we only ended up playing for two people -- not including the bartender!"

Story continues on the next page.
