Slim arrived with his family, friends and management in a fleet of luxury cars, draped up in suit and tie, looking every bit like the boss he claims to be in his rhymes. The normally cool and collected rapper was all smiles as he was escorted from the parking garage to the council chambers to greet a room full of admirers.
Mayor Annise Parker conducted business as usual during the meeting, providing her input to several issues on the agenda and congratulating the other groups that were on the schedule to be honored today.
She then asked Council Member Jerry Davis to step forward to introduce Slim in order to provide him with his proclamation certificate. The rapper graciously approached the podium, where he greeted the mayor and waited his turn to speak.
In a moment of lightheartedness, the mayor turned to Slim, smiled and said, "By the way sir, just remember that I'm the real boss of Houston!"
Slim thanked the mayor and Councilman Brown for inviting him to City Hall for such a momentous occasion. He stressed that he would continue his work in the community and hoped to inspire others to do the same. He also thanked the staff of radio station 97.9 FM The Box who were in attendance and had pushed hard to make Slim Thug Day a reality.
Individual members of the council took turns in expressing their appreciation for Slim's community outreach, thanking him for his service and aid throughout the years. One councilman pointed out that he forgot to thank his mother during his speech, who was also in the audience, beaming proudly for her son.
