The day that a festival announces its lineup is one of excitement and anxiety. For days speculation runs rampant and then the day arrives; some look at the lineup and fist-pump in front of their computers while others feel their hearts drop with disappointment.

I spent a part of Tuesday hitting the digital streets to see if my FPSF predictions (Zedd, Wu-Tang, Haim, Bastille, Kraftwerk) were shared by anyone else. Over on Reddit, folks worked diligently to try and unscramble the blurred lineup image. Meanwhile on Twitter, the main theory seemed to be:

But rumors of an Outkast set at FPSF had been flying around since about ten seconds after the Atlanta duo announced they were getting back together. The rumors were stoked again when this thread appeared on Facebook, even though they later clarified that said "greatest group in Hip-Hop history" had more than two members.

Even yesterday, plenty of folks were running with the idea that Outkast was a lock:

As we now know, it was not meant to be.

Needless to say, some folks took to Twitter to vent their frustrations:

More OutKast frustration on the next page.

Free press washed up has-beens fest 2014, with new and improved (ie. more expensive tickets).

Make this happen in the fall instead.

It was a deal breaker with the over priced tickets. Then their excuse was, "oh we are trying to make it a three day fest" it remains a high priced two day fest. The line up is sub par at best. WuTang, L Hill and Deftones is cool. But the rest are a bore and I doubt most people will sit through 1000 degree weather waiting around for them. But let the mom and dad high school money kids have fun.

Just because you don't keep up with the newer artists on the bill doesn't make it a bad lineup. It's a bad ass lineup.

Every year there is phase 1 and then phase 2! Look at other line ups! You think 86 artist can fell 6 stages for two days! Stop being stupid and wait!

It is. The line-up is great, but I've seen everyone of interest before. If Outkast were on the roster it would have gone from "I've seen them" to "holy crap I get to see all these guys AND Outkast is gonna be there!!!!” Thin line, I suppose.

How many times have the had other surprises and didn't release the full line up. Chill out and wait! You guys go through every year!

The lack of a good lineup in general was the dealbreaker for me. This year's lineup is pathetic compared to last year's.

I'm just glad they're not coming. They're not headliner material and not even close to best hip hop group ever. Thanks FPSF :)

What a shocker: HP posts an article against HFP's festival as soon as the lineup is posted. For the record, not including Outkast is the one thing FPSF did right.

I call BS on free press for this one. They knew damn well that there was a lot of hype surrounding outkast's festival presence this summer, and chose to make a vague, misleading post on Facebook that led to assumptions, and inevitably ticket purchases. If I had bought tickets based on that sort of manipulative bullshit Id be mad too. It's one thing to advertise and hype, it's another thing to intentionally mislead people.

Lol I'm seeing them at Coachella so no big deal to miss them here and the weak lineup.

In the weeks before and after the vague, "misleading Facebook message", there were no FPSF tickets for sale (other than from scalpers).  The presale had ended weeks before that, and tickets were not on sale again until after they posted the lineup yesterday (when everyone found out there was no Outkast).  Translation:  they did not post that Facebook message to garner ticket sales for "possible Outkast", as there weren't even tickets available for sale that they could make money off of.  No one could have bought tickets from the actual FPSF pormoters based on the Facebook post, unless they did so from scalpers.

Also, shortly after the Facebook message, they quickly stated that the group they were referring to had more than two members.

Anyone who bought tickets after the message did so from scalpers (benefitting FPSF in no way), and chose to ignore the fact that FPSF specifically stated that it would be a group with more than two members.
