The Complete SXSW Overflow Festival 2013 Guide: Week 1, Part 2

This year Rocks Off would like to help our readers get a handle on all the acts playing Super Happy Fun Land's SXSW Overflow Fest, an event that is longer than SXSW itself, with almost as many bands. There are nine nights left to go, and "season passes" are still available. See superhappyfunland.com for details.

The Glorious Veins
THURSDAY, MARCH 14

NCM: Alternative. Punk rock. Folk. From Brooklyn. Need we say more? 6:45 p.m.

WFC: The name is short for "Who Fucking Cares," so that may give you an idea of what to expect from this St. Louis-based punk/hardcore outfit. 7:30 p.m.

Better Days: "We are fast, melodic, positive hardcore," says drummer Travis Schaeffer. "It's something you'd work out to." 8 p.m.

Mighty Mongo: Ska band from Florida. 8:30 p.m.

The Milkstains: Dance-y tunes from Richmond, Va. 9:15 p.m.

Fancytramp: A band self-described as "glitter grunge"? From Nashville? We have to check this out. 10 p.m.

The Bad Ideas: The majority-female band tosses out song choices like "Dead in My Head," "OCD" and "Social Skills." Basically, the band is a complete guide to 16-year-old angst. 10:45 p.m.

The Hollywood Kills: The Kills' grumpy guitar noises are tempered by Jonathan Jircitano's pretty tenor. 11:30 p.m.

Awake at Last: Melodic rock from Delaware. 12:15 a.m.

Crystal Bright and the Sliver Hands: "World/Rock" from North Carolina. 1 a.m.

Yusif!: Yusif is a one-man mash-up of indie, rock, pop and folk. 8 p.m.

Rob Marcus: An acoustic rocker from Seattle. 9 p.m.

Walk the Plank: This band's tough-as-nails name makes the fact that they perform punk and hardcore not surprising. 10 p.m.

Viva DeConcini: Ballsy, talking rock and roll from NYC. 11 p.m.

Pillage & Plunder: Atlanta art-rock. 12 a.m.

Tom Blacklung and the Smokestacks: Post-punk from Brooklyn. 12:45 a.m.
