Guess Who Is Bringing Ted Nugent to the State of the Union Address?

Texas Rep. Steve Stockman, arguably the Tea Party's No. 1 advocate on Capitol Hill, has already had an eventful first term his second time in Washington. About three weeks ago, Stockman said he was ready to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Barack Obama if Obama's proposed gun-control legislation went through. The Washington Post quoted this statement from Stockman's office January 15:

The White House's recent announcement they will use executive orders and executive actions to infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms is an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic. I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment.

He also voted against fellow Republican John Boehner's successful bid to remain Speaker of the House, saying, "This is not something I do lightly, but out of bedrock conservative principle and a dire need to save this nation from its current course. We cannot tolerate betrayal of conservative principle and economic reality."

Stockman's 36th District includes a good bit of southeast Texas including eastern Harris County all the way down to Webster, where he keeps his local offices. Recently he announced he will be bringing a very special guest to tonight's State of the Union address: gonzo rocker, noted hunting enthusiast and known Obama-hater Ted Nugent.

Last week Nugent, a board member of the National Rifle Association who lives on a ranch outside Waco, appeared on an episode of CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight broadcast from Katy, where he told the British talk-show host and gun-control advocate to "leave us the hell alone." Here is how Nugent broke the news of today's Washington visit on Twitter:

"I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama," said Stockman in a statement on his Web site. "After the Address I'm sure Ted will have plenty to say."

Indeed. Rocks Off is not sure this is such a good idea, though. We are all for the Bill of Rights; of course we're partial to the First Amendment, but we have no problem whatsoever with the second.

But speaking of guns, we're just concerned all that extra security required to protect the Nuge -- a man the Texas Tribune noted Monday once said Obama could "suck on my machine gun" -- would add a whole new level to the debt ceiling. Hasn't our economy suffered enough?

And apparently that's not all Stockman will be doing, either. Monday, the political blog Twitchy said that the Congressman, who also served in Washington from 1995-97 from Texas' 9th Congressional District before being elected from the newly created 36th last fall, plans to live-tweet Obama's address and apply the hashtag "#youlie" when necessary.
