Beautiful sight, isn't it?
Houston's edgy restaurants and diverse museums may have drawn the attention of The New York Times, but both alternative and classic rockers, plus brawny country stars, scattered boy bands and Latin lovers, drew enough people through the turnstiles of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion that concert-industry tracker Pollstar has just ranked the venue as No. 2 amphitheater in the world during 2012.

According to a press release from the Pavilion Monday afternoon, the venue rang up a little more than 390,000 ticket sales during the 2012 calendar year, including sellout shows by BuzzFest 28, Dave Matthews Band, Jimmy Buffett, One Direction, The Buzz's "Weenie Roast" in July, Pitbull, KISS and Mötley Crüe, Journey, Linkin Park and Incubus, and finally Jason Aldean.

Huzzahs all around.

"We are fortunate to be located in a strong market and have as our partner Live Nation, the No. 1 concert promoter in the world, CWMP President Jerry McDonald said in the release. "The venue itself, its location and our staff also contribute to our success."

The Pavilion ranked No. 3 in last year's Pollstar survey, and now only trails the famous Red Rocks outside of Denver. Houston moved ahead of the Klipsch Music Center outside of Indianapolis, which dropped out of the Top 5. Behind us were Wolf Trap outside Washington D.C., the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre and the Hollywood Bowl.

Shame because that place isnt fun anymore. TSA style patdowns to get in the gate, way overpriced food and drinks, poor sound up on the hill, curfews, etc... Used to be fun in the 90s though.
