Yes, Public Image Ltd Is Playing Scout Bar
The runoff attached to Fun Fun Fun Fest during the first weekend in November has paid off for Houston, which will see dates from Baroness -- fingers crossed, Tomahawk, Converge, Red Fang, Valient Thorr, and now Public Image Ltd.
The post-Sex Pistols John Lydon project will play Clear Lake's Scout Bar on Friday, November 2. Yes, the venue seems a tad incongruous for PiL, but the band has never done anything normal in their nearly four-decade run.
They released their first album in 20 years, This Is PiL, back in May, following up 1992's That What Is Not.
The band formed in 1978 after the break-up of the Sex Pistols, and showed off a different, angular, and challenging side to Lydon, nee Johnny Rotten. Lydon is the only member left from the original lineup, which included Keith Levene, Jim Walker, and Jah Wobble.
Deer Tick's John McCauley recently played a UK festival with Lydon's group and wrote that PiL circa 2012 is worth checking out.
Ticket prices are set at $35 and go on sale to the public on Friday, September 7, at 10 a.m. through the Front Gate Tickets. This one is sure to sell out very quickly. No openers have named as of yet.
It looks like the last Houston PiL show was a November 17, 1989 gig at Numbers on Westheimer with Flesh For Lulu. Earlier that year they came through Austin supporting New Order.
The author was not there at the Numbers show because he was six years old and at Hermann Hospital waiting for younger brother to be born, but I am sure that some of our readers may have been at Numbers that night.
