Rewind: King's X Drummer Jerry Gaskill Has Heart Attack

King's X Marks The Spot: Three Bands Spawned by Houston's Hard-Rock Power Trio

Houston progressive hard-rock band King's X will return to the road this fall, its first tour since drummer Jerry Gaskill suffered a heart attack in February, the trio's publicists InsideOut Music said Wednesday.

"Not too long ago, I was thinking I might not ever get back on a stage," Gaskill said in the release. "Now I'm ready and with the OK from my doctors."

The band will open ten shows for classic rockers Kansas, offering the bonus chance to hear "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust In the Wind." The tour begins Sept. 13 at New York's Best Buy Theater and runs through Oct. 6 at Kansas City's Uptown Theater.

No Houston shows are currently on the itinerary. King's X had to cancel a March 23 show at Warehouse Live, part of their "First Church of Rock and Roll" tour, after Gaskill's illness. It seems reasonable to expect a homecoming show before too much longer.

On its Web site, King's X is now offering a free download of Burning Down Boston, a 14-song set recorded at The Channel nightclub in June 1991, with a $20 donation to Gaskill's medical expenses.
