7 Cool & Cheap Weekenders: Fiskadoro, BT, Hickoids, The 71's, Etc.

Patently unclassifiable locals Fiskadoro ("post-punk"...maybe?) welcomes synth-punk act mnttaB all the way from Melbourne, Australia to notsuoH Friday night. Check out mnttaB's Bandcamp page; it's definitely the closest you'll get to seeing Suicide in Houston (this weekend, anyway...we hear Suicide is back together at the moment). Since a couple of other bands have dropped off, Fiskadoro's Richard Kimball says the trio may play an extra dub set, but promises "dread disco." Regardless. Sounds good to us.

The Drunks, Donkey Punch and The Blood Royale bring you an evening of unicorns, daffodils and butterfly kisses tonight at Rudyard's. Of course they will.

Kozmic Pearl, all the Janis you can handle with a side helping of Big Brother & the Holding Co., are this week's featured attraction at the Houston Press's "Cocktails & Covers" engagement at House of Blues' Bronze Peacock Room. No cover.

Classically minded house DJ and producer BT comes to Stereo Live Saturday behind his new mix album, Laptop Symphony, an extension of his Sirius XM show that tosses artists including Wolfgang Gartner, Ferry Corsten, Swedish House Mafia and Feed Me into BT's blender. For nostalgia's sake, he'll no doubt get around to his famous remix of Tori Amos's "Blue Skies," a club smash in 1996. Trivia: BT once played synthesizers on a Salt-N-Pepa album.

Houston's modern-rockers The 71's, much admired by Rocks Off's own Jef With One F, have a new album on the way next week, We Are the Seventy Ones (cool artwork, too). We're almost positive he'll be telling you more about it soon, but for now have a listen to first single "Confessions." The band plays a release show Saturday at Fitz with Black Queen Speaks and Roomsounds.

Longhaired Southern boys Whiskey Myers raise a little hell Saturday night at the Firehouse Saloon behind their latest album, last year's Firewater. If the drinkin' don't kill 'em, her memory will.

Saturday at the same damn place, legendary party agitators the Hickoids and Poor Dumb Bastards will finish off whatever may be left of your liver after Friday night's Rudz bill. We're already hung over just thinking about it.
