Your 2012 Houston Press Music Awards Showcase Artists

Can someone that moderates this page please answer my question?

So what's the deal? Do all nominated bands play or not??

Our band was nominated in 5 categories and didn't make the showcase. Hmm

It's suppose to be random, but it's also a concert with sponsors and overhead.  It makes sense that HP would select bands with the most draw and maybe pepper in some randoms.  It's no coincidence that the same names on the list are the same bands and artists you see playing around town at popular venues.       

I would also imagine that there are a number of acts that don't really play shows, but had enough friends vote to get them nominated. In those cases I would imagine HP would sift out inactive performers.

I agree with you in theory.  It probably is an advantage to play.  It's a shame that everyone who wants to play doesn't get to. I'm sure it's a tough process for HP to decide who plays, or maybe it is just random, or maybe they try to get acts that haven't played it before first dibs.  Who knows? Do you have the complete list of bands that are nominated but not on the showcases?  I don't want to compile that list myself... You can never know the answer to how many of the nominated acts couldn't play because they're on tour or didn't want to play for one reason or another.  My band considers ourselves fortunate and happy to be invited to play.

It is illogical that artists who were nominated and able to play the showcase are not invited to the showcase. To be fair, if the purpose of the showcase is to feature nominated artists, yet not all of the artists nominated are present, should they not receive the same opportunity as the artists who will appear in the showcase? Realizing that there are logistical issues with housing over 100 nominees, it seems that a clear and distinct advantage is given to the artists who will perform at the showcase.

Derrick Churchwell not everyone makes the list, maybe next year; Dayna Lock you're right! It should be "All of 'the' bands"...unless you're meaning ALL bands everywhere, which is just silly.

How can you say ALL of the bands? There are quite a few missing?
