Houston House of Creeps (807 Williams), now near Last Concert Cafe, is hosting Weird Fest 2012 starting at 7 p.m. The lineup, as per the Facebook event page: Driver Friendly (Tour kickoff show in Houston), Fingers Crossed (Houston Assholes), Deep Cuts (Scored every Disney Classic soundtrack), Chemistry (these kids are super sad, come cheer them up) and more TBD. Cover is $5, or possibly less. And shame on you, whoever broke their window.

Connie Mims, Jennifer Grassman, Leslie Krafka, Hank Woji and many others gather "Back to the Garden," a tribute to Joni Mitchell, tonight at Heights Live at Heights Presbyterian Church (240 W. 18th.). It's about an ideal a setting as you can find to hear Mitchell's songs. Seating is limited to 100; $20.

As usual, Cactus Music has a couple of in-stores Saturday. The first is L.A.-based singer-songwriter Jim Hanft, who starts things off at 1 p.m. plugging his new disc on Sweden's Veranda Independent Records Weddings or Funerals. Hanft plays AvantGarden later on Saturday with Sarah Yonack.

At 3 p.m., back at Cactus, local four-piece Runaway Sun continues the release festivities for their latest, Let's Run. It's a great radio-rock disc from the days when radio still mattered, like the '90s or something.
