7 Cool & Cheap Weekenders: A Fistful of Soul, Waylon Tribute, Etc.
He may not play much Ministry or Cure, but Miller Outdoor Theatre programming director Reg "Third Degree" Burns will probably school you in some of his favorite funk and jazz sides free tonight at Leon's Lounge. Brainy Houston punk veterans The Anarchitex visit Super Happy Fun Land this evening with Vex, Bald Eagle Burger and Ken Jones' Subpoena.
Are you sure Joe Ely done it this way? Wait a second. Waylon Jennings would have been 75 years old this weekend, and Uncle Lucius, Matt Harlan & Rachel Jones, Brad Boyer and Al Staehely have put together a little tribute at the Firehouse Saloon. The $15 cover goes to the Waylon Fund. Can you believe it's been more than ten years since he died?
Rockers Espantapajaros and Amplified Heat share a wild and wooly bill Saturday at Mango's. Bring earplugs.
One last plug for Houston "jazz" band Free Radicals, who release their first CD in eight years, the whopping 23-track The Freedom Fence, Saturday at Fitz with a slew of special guests: Samaa Soul, Soular Grooves, Havikoro and members of H.I.S.D.
