This Saturday, the streets around Westheimer and Montrose will be swamped with people for the 34th annual Houston LGBT Pride Celebration, one of the oldest and largest events of its kind in the South. Started to commemorate the famous June 1969 Stonewall riots in New York's Greenwich Village, Houston's Pride parade and surrounding party reached an estimated attendance of more than 100,000 last year, according to the Daily Cougar. (Other estimates are much higher.)

Of course with all those people around Montrose Saturday afternoon and evening, you know there's going to be a lot of music, both on the official Pride stage near Westheimer and Montrose and at surrounding businesses such as Boondocks, Royal Oak, Mango's and a few others.

See the Pride Houston Web site and the individual establishments' pages for complete information, but for now here are five performers Rocks Off recommends among all that celebrating.

Sexual Side Effects
5. THE SEXUAL SIDE EFFECTS

Who? Female-fronted Atlanta glam-rockers making some noise in their local scene with songs like "I'm In Love With a Girl (But She Used To Be a Man)," from this year's High Maintenance EP.
Sounds Like: Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Exene Cervenka
Where & When: Pride Festival stage, between 1-7 p.m.

4. JENNA DREY

Who? Florida-based dance-pop diva whose voice is as substantial and sometimes overwhelming as the frothy beats over which she sings. Reached the Billboard dance chart with singles "Killin' Me" and "By the Way" and co-wrote most of the songs on latest album One Step Further (2006) with Canadian producer Kevin Churko (Hinder, Five Finger Death Punch), but also sang Boz Scaggs' "We're All Alone" and Air Supply's "All Out of Love." Sang the hell out of that last one, too.
Sounds Like: Britney Spears, Sylvia Tosun
Where & When: Pride Festival stage, after Sexual Side Effects

3. SECOND LOVERS

Who? Robust, earnest Houston indie-folk quintet gearing up for the release of its debut album next month has a Pride dress rehearsal at Royal Oak.
Sounds Like: The Band, Okkervil River
Where & When: Royal Oak

2. YOUNG GIRLS

Who? Echo-loving Houston indie-pop quartet who has been a little on the dormant side lately.
Sounds Like: Beach Boys, Band of Horses
Where & When: Boondocks, Saturday night before Eleven:Eleven

1. ELEVEN:ELEVEN

Who? Austin male-female electro duo with synths like cotton candy and beats to match.
Sounds Like: The Faint, Ladytron
Where & When: Boondocks, after Young Girls
