Trouble Brewing in Houston Pavilions Exclusivity Battle

Well, Rocks Off was about to head over to Discovery Green's first free Thursday concert of the season when we noticed this item on the Chronicle's real estate blog, Prime Property.

Seems that House of Blues is suing its landlord Houston Pavilions, which is currently in receivership after some funding backed out, for breach of contract (basically). It is also suing longtime Houston nightlife king Scott Gertner, who recently opened the club Scott Gertner's at Houston Pavilions (that's the name), claiming Gertner's plans to expand his recently opened venue violate HOB's right to be the largest live-music venue in the development.

Scott Gertner's at Houston Pavilions recently opened in the complex under a capacity of 400 -- much less than HOB's current occupancy of 1,000 to 1,800 -- but the lawsuit says he plans to expand by opening on the roof.

Of the parties involved, reporter Purva Patel was only able to reach HOB attorney Jeff Lefkowitz, who told her that Gertner's is violating HOB's exclusivity clause.

Rocks Off will continue following this story and report back what we are able to find out.

Oh no, the venue that cut off George Clinton at midnight and couldn't be bothered to install an escalator that goes all the way up is upset.

Great corporate BS stance from House of Blues!  Live Nation can't handle a LOCAL BIZ helping them attract more LIVE MUSIC FANS!  Sure hope Scott Gertner let's all of Houston knows about all of the TAX BREAKS we provide these OUT OF TOWNERS!!  Go get 'em Scott!!

You seem to think HOB installed the escalators. I'm guessing you think The Gap installed all the escalators in The Galleria, too.
