Sugarland Says It Will Play New BBVA Compass Stadium

Pop-country duo Sugarland will be playing the Houston Dynamo's new stadium, BBVA Compass Stadium, the band announced in a set of tour dates on its Web site. The show, scheduled for Aug. 26, appears to be the last stop of the band's "In Your Hands" 2012 tour.

The announcement was expected to come at a press conference scheduled for 11:30 this morning at the stadium. Oops.

Sugarland is one of several top country artists under AEG's touring umbrella AEG Live, along with Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood. AEG's pop and rock artists include P!nk, The Black Eyed Peas, Paul McCartney and Leonard Cohen.

Rocks Off supposes any and all of them are now fair game to perform at BBVA Compass Stadium. We're hoping for Leonard Cohen.

AEG, a subsidiary of the Anschutz Company, also owns both the Houston Dynamo and BBVA Compass stadium, as well as the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Minneapolis' Target Center and the NOKIA Theater in Times Square.

Besides other non-sporting events such as boxing, BBVA will be used for concerts as both co-promotion with AEG and as a for-hire venue, said the stadium's Director of Marketing, PR & Booking, Gina Rotolo.

"As long as a show made sense for a stadium of our size," she says.

Although the stadium has no other concerts on the books at the moment, Rotolo says the venue is exploring other possible shows. "There's been a lot of interest in doing something around NBA All-Star Weekend [in 2013]," she said.

BBVA is even open to renting itself out for a show produced by AEG's main rival across the country and the Houston area's dominant concert promoter, Live Nation, Rotolo said.

"Absolutely."

So happy they are getting this opportunity. Who is going to the Houston date of this tour? I'm super excited for it. I still haven't gotten a chance to see them live yet. Tickets are still available here: http://www.axs.com/new-york-ny....Sugarland::BBVA Compass Stadium::08/26/2012 7:30 PM
