30 Seconds With My Education's Scott Telles

Austin's My Education falls somewhere between the instrumental interludes of Rasputina and Pink Floyd. It's like New Age music for highly disturbed people. Fresh off their SXSW showcase, we basked in the ether of bassist Scott Telles' presence to see what we could learn about him in 30 seconds.

Rocks Off: What is worst song in the world?

Scott Telles: I'm gonna hafta go with "Stairway to Heaven" on this one, largely due to overexposure.

RO: What is the best lyric in the world?

ST: At this particular moment, I'm thinking of the line in "Charley's Girl" by Lou Reed where he sings "I said if I ever see Sharon again...I'm gonna punch her [pause] face in" largely because of the pregnant pause right before he says "face" where you just know the word "fucking" belongs, but is omitted due to good taste.

RO: Someone throws a beer bottle at you onstage. What do you do?

ST: If they're in the front couple rows, I thwack them over the head with my Fender Precision, a la Sid Vicious. If they're further back, I wade into the crowd, swinging my Precision above my head like a battleaxe, and beat them up, a la JJ Burnel.

RO: Without worrying about space, time or the laws of physics, what would be the ultimate gig to play?

ST: I've always wanted to play the rings of Saturn. What a view!
