Summer Fest Promises 2012 Lineup "Soon"

The 2012 FPSF lineup is, in the words of 2011 alum Junior Brown, stuck in a holding pattern.
Rocks Off was setting our house in order after our long absence, when at some point we realized that while we were away, we had barely heard anything about this year's Free Press Summer Fest at all. We vaguely remembered the festival leaking electro DJ duo Major Lazer a while back, but that's about it.

Shockingly, that's because there hasn't been much to say. But if last year holds true, we can start expecting Summer Fest to reveal its lineup any day now. Last year, the announcement came via a pre-prepared video broadcast from the stage at a packed Fitzgerald's.

Summer Fest head Omar Afra wouldn't cop to a date this year - and we tried - only saying the festival hoped to release the roster, which will be spread across several stages June 2 and 3 at Eleanor Tinsley Park, in the next couple of weeks.

"Holding out out for something BIG so can't give a specific date for release but soon," Afra said.

The festival's headliners are about 90 percent booked, he added, with local and regional acts - the freshman/sophomore add/drops of the festival circuit - currently at about 50 percent. It will have the same number of stages ("give or take one"), and some may be bigger.

No festival exists in a vacuum, though. More than 100 punk, metal, hardcore and indie bands, including Iceage, Best Coast, Saint Vitus, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists and the Abused, descend on Austin for the Chaos In Tejas fest from May 31-June 3. California "Pumped Up Kicks" indie-pop heartthrobs Foster the People have dates in Dallas June 4 and Austin June 5 with the Kooks, but have not announced a Houston date.

Even jazz-fusion bassist Stanley Clarke, who came through town last year with his '70s band Return to Forever, is booked at Austin's One World Theater on June 5. If that sounds strange, remember Medeski, Martin & Wood at Summer Fest 2010.

The other thing to remember is that if there is a local artist not currently touring or dead, it's a safe bet they'll be at the festival. Current Summer Fest presale prices are $45 (Weekend Pass), $65 (Fancy Pants) and $600 (High Roller).

I got them last year and they were definitely worth it. Me and my friend had a blast at the festival. Its safe to say we probably came close in drinking our moneys worth in beer. When you think about it its 600 bucks between 2 people. That includes Hotel stay for one night(Saturday), drinks, shuttle bus to and from festival grounds, free shirt and poster, as well as tickets to fitzgeralds to future concerts, fpsf bag, not to mention all the attention we got walking around with those big golden high roller passes. Also, meeting WEEZER was pretty cool. I already bought my high roller tickets again this year. CANT WAIT for june!!!!!

That is for a pair of High Roller passes which includes hotel, all drinks, and sidestage viewing are as well as access to AC tents. Don't get it twisted; GA passes are only 45 bux and are the cheapest in the country for a festival of this kind.

For your own cabana tent fully stocked with beer, yes. The Web site says only 9 are left.

I wonder if "stocked with beer" means a case of Miller Lite?
