Its move to the HD airwaves and the Internet hasn't stopped Rice University student radio station KTRU from putting on its annual free outdoor show.

Doing its part to counterprogram SXSW, KTRU has booked sharp-edged New Jersey indie-rockers Titus Andronicus, Brooklyn goth-pop trio Chairlift, Portland punks the Thermals, former Houstonian Jana Hunter's new band Lower Dens and Houston rapper Slim Thug to top its lineup. The show runs noon until dark Saturday, March 17 (St. Patrick's Day), on Rice's main quad.

Other Houston artists playing the Outdoor Show are the Wild Moccasins, Roky Moon & BOLT!, The Energy, "vegetable hardcore" band the Demonic Hen and SwaraRagaLaya, an ensemble that plays the Southern Indian style of classical music known as Carnatic.

The final spot is taken by winner of Thursday's battle of the bands contest, Rice Students Jesus, the Crazy, and the Bad Kids. The lineup announcement came late Thursday after the contest at on-campus bar Willy's Pub.

There is no onsale date for Outdoor Show tickets because there are no tickets. The show is free, but unfortunately the beer by St. Arnold's is not. (No BYOB, either.)
