In touring news which is sure to delight many Houstonians, Florence + The Machine have announced a May 2 date at Verizon Wireless Theater. This will be the first show here by F+ M ever.

This Houston show comes just before their New Orleans Jazz Fest appearance the following weekend. We can assume that more NOLA Jazz Fest stragglers will be coming through town around this time as well. (Cough Beach Boys cough...)

The group, led by Florence Welch, became music industry darlings with 2009's debut album Lungs, and it's single "Dog Days Are Over". In the meantime, the willowy redheaded Welch became an indie pin-up girl, and becoming somewhat of a fashion icon along the way. A few weeks back she gave a funny, candid interview to Rolling Stone about growing up listening to Green Day's Dookie.

The band is currently touring behind last November's Ceremonials, which made it onto plenty of 2011 best-of lists. Florence and her machines performed "Shake It Out" and "No Light, No Light" on Saturday Night Live a few weeks after the release of Ceremonials.

Tickets for the May 2 date go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. through LiveNation.
