Ask A Rapper: DJ Mr. Luke Picks The Most Intriguing Rap Storylines Of The Year

Categories: Ask a Rapper

The hip-hop world is a less than sensible place -lots of times, you're even required to clarify when bad means bad and when bad means good- so once a week we're going to get with a rapper and ask them to explain things. Have something you always wanted to ask a rapper? Email it to sheaserrano@gmail.com.

This Week's Rapper: DJ Mr. Luke

This Week's Subject: The most intriguing rap storylines of the year.

Ask A Rapper: So we'll make this easy (or difficult, depending on how you look at it). Here's what we need: Can you list the six most intriguing story lines from rap in 2011? Was it Kanye and Jay-Z somehow avoiding having their album leaked? Was it Tyler, the Creator warbling the Internet? Was it something Bieber did? What were they? Go.

DJ Mr. Luke: The most intriguing story lines from rap in 2011:

6. Lil Wayne Disses Jay-Z

Even though this battle didn't go any further than a few harsh lines from Lil Wayne, it was still one of the most talked about stories of the year. For weeks, people repeated
the line, "Kidnap your bitch, get that how much you love your lady money." I'm still waiting on Jay-Z's response.

5. Rick Ross Has Two Seizures in the Same Day

This was a big story for me because it made me take a better look at my own personal health. Watching what he went through, I realized the same thing(s) can happen to me if I don't watch my own health more closely.

4. Heavy D Passes Away

Another great is lost for hip-hop. Heavy D was a positive and very talented
artist who lots of us who rap grew up listening to. His untimely death is very sad, but we have many great songs to remember him by.

Listen to "The Greatest Ever"

3. Lupe Fiasco Calls President Obama a Terrorist

This was a big story to me because it sparked a different type of conversation in hip-hop. Instead of debating which song is the hottest or who is the better lyricist, we were discussing politics. That's big.

2. Nate Dogg Dies

Heartbreaking loss for hip-hop as a whole. That one of a kind, soulful and easily
recognizable voice that we all grew to love is now gone forever. A true pioneer in the game, his influences will last for many years to come.

1. Clip D's Death

This story was really big because it hit home. It has affected one of our own. Seeing the strength that Trae has displayed throughout this whole ordeal is amazing to me. I know
lots of people who wouldn't be able to continue so aggressively, so soon. Trae has really been an inspiration to the whole city and the world, and we keep him in our prayers.
