Categories: Rap Round Table

Some rappers happen to be thoughtful, intelligent people. Every Monday Rocks Off will have some of them here discussing issues relevant to their culture.

This Week's Panel: Slim Thug, Mug, Yung Redd, Delo, Preemo, Chane, Brad Gilmore, Herney the Great, Mic Skills, more.

Not Invited: Rick Perry.

This Week's Prompt: So, let's hear it: Which is the best Halloween-y rap song you can think of? Why?

Slim Thug: "Halloween Night"* because it sounds like a scary movie.

*This is the song that Slim just released last week. It features Le$ and Mug. It's very good.

Scooby: "Murder Ave," Bushwick Bill.

Yung Redd: "Hail Mary," Pac.

Mug: I would agree [with Yung Redd]. Can't forget Slim Thug's new song.

Herney the Great: Geto Boys "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me" because of Bushwick's verse. He talked about Halloween and it's a dope song.

Delo: Geto Boys, "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me." This year, Halloween fell on a weekend.

Brad Gilmore: Probably anything by Ganksta N-I-P or Bill from the Geto Boys. Maybe "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me."

Chane: Wow, I can't name just one, I have several of those. DMX "Damien," Fresh Prince "Nightmare On Elm Street" and Eminem "Kim." My favorite would probably be Snoop's "Murder Was The Case." As a kid and still to this day I love that song. He's basically having a conversation with the devil about selling his soul for fame and riches. The video was wild too. It's not rap, but Michael Jackson's "Thriller" tops everybody. As a kid, I refused to listen to that song nor watch the video. It was that scary to me. I still feel a little timid listening to it alone.

Medicine Girl: "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me: by Geto Boys. All walks of life can relate to at least one of the group members.

Young Sensation: "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me" because Bushwick's verse. [laughs] This year, Halloween fell on a weekend. Classic.

Chuckway: Geto Boys, "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me."

Tha Centop: Only one comes to mind: "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me."

Mic Skills: As far as Halloween-y rap songs go, Geto Boys' "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me" is the best.

Preemo: Here's a hint: "This year, Halloween fell on a weekend, me and Geto Boys were trick or treating."
