30 Seconds With Blackguard's Paul Ablaze

We sat down with Paul Ablaze of Blackguard to see what we could learn about the vocalist for one hell of a metal act out of Quebec in 30 seconds.

Rocks Off: What is the worst song in the world?

Paul Ablaze: Right now I would say that stupid peacock song by Katy Perry. Talk about the worst attempt to be edgy.

RO: What is the best lyric in the world?

PA: "Even though I'm broke I gotta six-pack of beer" - Hank Williams II, "Six Pack of Beer."

RO: Someone throws a beer bottle at you onstage. What do you do?

PA: If I saw who it was, I might try to missile toe drop-kick 'em, Axl Rose style.

RO: Without worrying about time, space, or the laws of physics, what would be the ultimate gig to play?

PA: Blackguard, Zao, Extol, Origin (original line up), Children of Bodom , Iron Maiden. Some of my biggest influences, all together.

RO: What would you buy with a million dollars?

PA: A decent house and tons of Apple stock.

RO: What would you buy with your last dollar?

PA: A vanilla Prime Time cigarillo.

RO: If you could canonize another musician, who would it be and of what would they be the patron saint?

PA: Admiral Nobeard of Swashbuckle. And he would be the patron saint of hilariously jaded metal singers.

RO: What will be written on the plaque beneath the giant statue future generations will erect in your honor?

PA: He had crappy hair, couldn't sing well, but he moved around a lot on stage so I guess he's OK.

Blackguard plays tonight at Scout Bar with Kamelot, Alestorm, and the Agonist. Their album, Firefight, is available from Victory Records.
