Queens Post-Rock Duo Takes Lakewood Church To Court
Queens duo The American Dollar would rather their own dollars not come from Lakewood Church.

As our sister blog Hair Balls reported this morning, Richard Cupolo and John Emanuelle have filed suit against the Greenway Plaza megachurch and its founders, evangelism power couple Joel and Victoria Osteen, claiming Lakewood is continuing to use their song "Signaling Through the Flames" in advertisements after the one-year licensing agreement expired.
"Flames" was used in the Lakewood promotional DVD Supernatural, where it "substantially increased revenue and profits" for the church, according to the suit. But now The American Dollar thinks being associated with Osteen may harm their chances of placing their "meditative and inspirational instrumentals" in movies and other TV shows.
The duo's publisher, Yesh music, "is not affiliated with any religious groups or political organizations, and does not desire to have its music associated with Defendants," says the suit. "Instead, Yesh desires broad marketing of its music without compromising its artistic integrity or alienate its niche following."
