Remember that announcement Rocks Off promised you about another addition to next month's Best of Houston® BestFest lineup lo those many years months days hours ago? Like, yesterday?

Here it is: Chamillionaire.

Sorry it took so long, but the music business tends to run at its own speed. Those of us who are used to it call it "hurry up and wait." But it's twue, it's twue. Rocks Off has seen the contract with our two beady little eyes. The Grammy-winning "Ridin'" rapper will join Cake, Buxton, Bun B, Deer Tick and the Tontons as your entertainers September 24 and 25 (schedule TBD) on the Midtown "superblock."

It will be Chamillionaire's first public performance in Houston in 2011.

Since parting ways with Universal Records in January, an exit that forced him to relinquish any rights to his long-delayed and reworked third album Venom, Chamillionaire released the Major Pain 1.5 mixtape shortly thereafter. Otherwise he has been keeping a low profile around his hometown, spending a lot of time in the studio and doing shows overseas, most recently in Germany. The tech-savvy MC has also been visiting various digital expos and helping revamp his Web site, chamillionaire.com, says his publicist, Nancy Byron.

General admission and VIP weekend passes for BestFest are on sale for $25 and $95, respectively, until September 1 at bestfesthouston.com. (They'll still be on sale after that, just for a little more scratch.) Follow BestFest on Twitter at @HouBestFest.

Rocks Off will have more lineup announcements - more local lineup announcements - later on this week. Stay tuned to the BestFest sites and our sister blogs for more updates on food vendors, visual artists and things of that nature.

But for now, as Dennis Miller said, that's the news and we... are... outta here.

I didn't read anywhere in the post that Chamillionaire was a headliner. And the Summer Fest lineup wasn't diverse? Does anyone recall the first Summer Fest in 2009? You know, before it blew it up and Of Montreal was a headliner?

You're comparing an established two-day, eight-stage festival to a new one? Weak. Why not simply hope for the best and give them the benefit of the doubt?

Haters gonna hate.

Learn from ghoulsfest, if you make a musical event too diverse people will not show. I don't think Cake and Chamillionaire share many fans. That being said, I'll likely skip this probable cluster cuss..

Ghoulsfest had several more problems than simply a diverse lineup. Ticket prices, location, the number of acts (specifically on the local end), and lack of promotion all hurt it significantly.

They could've easily fit another stage (or two) onto the property they were using, stacked  with local acts, to draw out more of the local crowd.

I might stand outside the fence Sunday and listen to Cake. Otherwise, I'll pass.
