Trae Tha Truth has Trae Day. Rap-A-Lot's J. Prince has his day, too. And now, August 30, 2011 will forever be known in the City of Houston as "Bernard 'Bun B' Freeman Day."

A little less than an hour ago, Mayor Annise Parker presented the Underground King with his own proclamation at City Hall in front of a standing-room-only crowd of fans and Trill Gladiators.

Coincidentally, today is also the 175th Anniversary of the registration of the "Town of Houston." So go ahead and continue the celebration in honor of this great city and #BunBDay!

Bun B told City Council:

It's taken a lot for me to get here today. There have been a lot of different obstacles... personally & professionally... by myself as well as with my brother, Chad Butler. This is an overwhelming moment because of what it represents, not only to me as an artist, but also to me as a person.

I do believe that regardless of your status, or tax bracket, or where you reside, we all have a civic duty to help our fellow citizens. I resign myself to that notion faithfully and I try to do my best to instill these principles into the next generation.

I do believe that presently in Houston there is a need for more hands on attention for the youth of the city, either with after school programs or just a general need for attention to the children.

I'd like to take this opportunity to tell the City Council that I am available 24-7/365 when it comes to the children of Houston as well as the surrounding cities and communities. Whenever the city needs me, I am more than willing and able to answer the call.

I ask everyone who is here present today, as well as those who may see this on TV or the internet later, to do their part as well.

Let's not forget the children of Houston. Let's make sure that they are accounted for, that they are looked after, and that they are loved and cared about.

Again, I am very honored to be here in front of my family as well as others whom I work with everyday, who make up Team Trill, who are also able to take care of the community.

So whenever you need me, or Team Trill, I ask Mayor Parker and the city council to please call me, and I will make sure to get the word out to everyone who can help out.

Thank you.

The ignorance of the black population can be witnessed by the lifting up of this thug, and his arrogance. Lets all sit back and once more, watch stupidity perpetuate stupidity...

The fact that I have no idea why this happened doesn't even begin to overshadow the massive amounts of awesome that it contains.

Unbelievable that we would waste city money promoting these fools.  I actually like Bun B's speech, but his life and his lyrics should back that up more and then he poses with a guy flashing a gang sign (gangs are killing this country) and to me it's just another example of thugism becoming the ruling paradigm and although it is cool that he tried to speak about helping the youth, how can he do that being his lyrics adn therefore his propaganda, show that he is a homophobic, woman-using, whore mongering jerkwad,  which just encourages violence and hatred and thugism and bullying and  using and devaluing women and other low-life unsophisticated unhealthy destructive behavior and also he is promoting  Gangsterism adn gangsters--the guy he is with is flashing a gang sign, i think its bloods or 59 bounty hunters or one of the many gangs taking over Houston and turnign it into into a cesspool in some parts of town. Selfishness greed hedonism irresponsibility, violence, stealing, laziness, entiltled-ness and  a victim mentality.  Men with no respect for anything, like the guys that commented on your post, here... nothing real to say except to laugh at any attempt at protecting the vulnerable or weak.  Men who dont' protect and help the weak are not men in my book and don't deserve to breath (or breed!) in my opinion.

I mean, who among us has ever really loved a punk ass, sorry son of a bitch? I sure haven't. Thanks for using the public forum to express to the masses what so many of us are only able to do in private, Bun.

I'm so glad we have an expert on gang signs amongst us to interpret the horrific hand gestures displayed in the photos!

you must be the same guy who wrote this article:

http://freedomarizona.wordpres...

By your logic, all those kids at UT are worshippers of Satan, and the foam fingers at sporting events are just gang members claiming their territory.

The more you know...

Actually, you don't know that local gangs use sport teams hand signs and logos and then slightly alter them.  That is how they hide in plain sight.  Go to the Houston police site--stophoustongangs.org and you can see very clearly how the sideways "hook 'em horns" sign is used by local gangs..

Also they use the local Latino Gang, the "Houstones" uses a slightly altered star from the Astros logo, only its open so regular folks can't tell, but they can.  Look it up.

The more you know,...

There are approx 10,000 gang members in Houston and more growing everyday as they make it easier to join.  Every gang in Texas has a chapter here and they have moved into the suburbs not just the inner city and if you haven't seen 'em in your neighborhood, well you must be richer than me, so kudos to you for being a sheltered lucky person who still has the luxury of being in denial.
