Trae Tha Truth has Trae Day. Rap-A-Lot's J. Prince has his day, too. And now, August 30, 2011 will forever be known in the City of Houston as "Bernard 'Bun B' Freeman Day."

A little less than an hour ago, Mayor Annise Parker presented the Underground King with his own proclamation at City Hall in front of a standing-room-only crowd of fans and Trill Gladiators.

Coincidentally, today is also the 175th Anniversary of the registration of the "Town of Houston." So go ahead and continue the celebration in honor of this great city and #BunBDay!

Bun B told City Council:

It's taken a lot for me to get here today. There have been a lot of different obstacles... personally & professionally... by myself as well as with my brother, Chad Butler. This is an overwhelming moment because of what it represents, not only to me as an artist, but also to me as a person.

I do believe that regardless of your status, or tax bracket, or where you reside, we all have a civic duty to help our fellow citizens. I resign myself to that notion faithfully and I try to do my best to instill these principles into the next generation.

I do believe that presently in Houston there is a need for more hands on attention for the youth of the city, either with after school programs or just a general need for attention to the children.

I'd like to take this opportunity to tell the City Council that I am available 24-7/365 when it comes to the children of Houston as well as the surrounding cities and communities. Whenever the city needs me, I am more than willing and able to answer the call.

I ask everyone who is here present today, as well as those who may see this on TV or the internet later, to do their part as well.

Let's not forget the children of Houston. Let's make sure that they are accounted for, that they are looked after, and that they are loved and cared about.

Again, I am very honored to be here in front of my family as well as others whom I work with everyday, who make up Team Trill, who are also able to take care of the community.

So whenever you need me, or Team Trill, I ask Mayor Parker and the city council to please call me, and I will make sure to get the word out to everyone who can help out.

Thank you.
