Rocks Off is proud to welcome twisted North Texas alt-rockers the Toadies and a pair of beloved local artists young and old, the Wild Moccasins and Little Joe Washington, to the lineup of the Houston Press' first-ever Best of Houston® BestFest in Midtown September 24 and 25.

The Toadies, who will close out Saturday night on the main stage, have been back with a vengeance ever since coming out of hiatus around 2007. The band behind "Tyler" and "Possum Kingdom" is in the middle of an especially busy season, even for them - besides BestFest, they headlined their own Dia de los Toadies festival at New Braunfels' White Water Amphitheater this past weekend (our Dallas sister blog DC9 at Night has a report) and will join the Old 97's and Centro-Matic at the Dallas Observer's Music Awards in October.

Speaking of busy, the Wild Moccasins have never been a band to let any grass grow under their feet, and they still aren't. Fresh off this weekend's DiverseWorks benefit, the indie-pop darlings will road-test material from their upcoming untitled New West debut on a fall tour that starts after their October 8, where they will play both CMJ in New York (alongside fellow Houstonians and BestFest artists Buxton) and Georgia's Athens Pop Festival. Perhaps we can talk them into premiering a new song or two at BestFest.

Finally, Rocks Off is especially happy to have Little Joe Washington joining us. Read more about the 73-year-old - we think - bluesman in this week's cover story, "Old School." There really is no one like Little Joe, either in Houston or anywhere else. Best of all, the Midtown superblock is only a few yards away from one of Little Joe's favorite hangouts (and ours), Leon's Lounge.

Here's the updated schedule. Again, acts are in no particular order of appearance, but the Toadies and Cake will be playing last.

Saturday: The Toadies, Chamillionaire, Bun B, Slim Thug, Against Me!, The Tontons

Sunday: Cake, Deer Tick, Hayes Carll, Carolyn Wonderland, Buxton, Wild Moccasins, Little Joe Washington

Prices for general-admission and VIP weekend passes go up from $25 and $95, respectively, to $40 and $150 at midnight tonight. We're getting close to filling up the lineup, but we're not quite there yet. Stay tuned.
