Sand, surf, carnival - and the apocalypse. It sounds like a lead-in to "One of These Things is Not Like the Others" (although probably a little heavy for the Sesame Street crowd), but that was the theme of Sweaty. Sultry. Sandy., an art/fashion show held over the weekend at War'hous Visual Studios.

No, you haven't stumbled onto the wrong blog. Music is still our No. 1 girl, but occasionally we do venture out to venues without a stage or a proper bar in support of the local art scene. Especially if the event in question is described to us by the organizer as, "Think Mad Max at the beach. Kids in ratty fur-lined clothes with hub-cap pinwheels...along those lines."

As expected, the show was twisted, disturbing, and gritty, with gas masks and torture, Nazis and knives, several figures strung up by a noose, and, the most horrifying of all, a clown menage-a-trois (shudder). There are some things you just can't unsee.

Providing an equally dark and ominous soundtrack to the insanity were DJs Dan Castillo and Ceeplus Bad Knives, and both were nice enough to provide us with a playlist for the end of days, each listed below.

CEEPLUS BAD KNIVES

The Sisters of Mercy, "Gimme Shelter"

War (children) feels even more imminent in this goth-rock remake of the Stones' classic.

Ministry, "Stigmata"

The kind of industrial chaos you'd want banging in your ear when outrunning zombies, vampires, or any other byproduct of a pandemic viral infection.

Talking Heads, "Burning Down the House"

Only David Byrne could make spontaneous combustion sound like fun.

Nitzer Ebb, "Join in the Chant"

Lies, gold, guns and fire. What more do you need to know?

The Doors, "The End"

We can't think of a better song to set the tone of hell on earth as the opener for Apocalypse Now.
