30 Seconds With The Manichean

Categories: Inquiring Minds

Rocks off sat down with Cory Sinclair and Justice Tirapelli-Jamail of the Manichean to find out what we could learn about our favorite local avant gardners (that we didn't already know) in 30 seconds.

Rocks Off: What is the worst song in the world?

Justice Tirapelli-Jamail: "Paranoid Android" by this band called Radiohead, because Radiohead fans are so cute when they're upset.

RO: What is the best lyric in the world?

Cory Sinclair: "No matter what happens now you shouldn't be afraid/ Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen," from Radiohead's "Videotape."

RO: Someone throws a beer bottle at you on stage. What do you do?

JTJ: Give them cancer. Lots of cancer. The bad kind.

RO: Without worrying about time, space, or the laws of physics, what would be the greatest gig to play?

CS (Contemplative pause): TRON... We'd play TRON.

RO: What would you buy with a million dollars?

JTJ: I'd finance a cure for cancer, which I would then price at $1 but withhold from anyone who's ever thrown a beer bottle at us.

RO: What would you buy with your last dollar?

CS: If I were dying of cancer and that was the reason I was down to my last dollar, I'd buy the cure for cancer from my best friend Justice. That or some gummybears or something.

RO: If you could canonize another musician, who would it be and of what would they be the patron saint?

Both: We would canonize Houston's very own Tyagaraja as the patron saint of all things both "Clutch" and "Trill" alike.

RO: What will they put on the plaque beneath the giant statue future generations will erect in your honor?

Both: "THE MANICHEAN - 'If only they had realized that TRON causes cancer.'"

The Manichean plays Thursday atFitzgerald's with Tax the Wolf and Twin Killers and again at their tour kickoff show Wednesday, July 20, with Mobley, Female Demand, Vipers and Portal Walker.
