Out Today: Other Things Besides Born This Way... Seriously

Hangover 2 Soundtrack.jpg
This past weekend was magical, what with Rocks Off finally getting to see Foo Fighters play songs from Wasting Light and all. You may remember that we have been wanking over Light since it came out in April, but it's really good. Best rock album of the year? Maybe, unless Jack White or Josh Homme decides to do something equally sexy.

Now it's time for us to start obsessing over the new My Morning Jacket album, Circuital, which we got an advance copy of last week before we went to Alabama's Hangout Music Festival. It comes out next Tuesday, and it's growing on us. The band is back to their It Still Moves form, but they have kept the weirdness of Evil Urges. More on Circuital next week. And the week after, and the week after...

Along with that new MMJ, expect new slabs from Death Cab For Cutie and Flogging Molly, an Eddie Vedder ukulele album, and some Ozzy Osbourne reissues.

We close this week's playlist of new tracks with a tribute to "Macho Man" Randy Savage, who passed away Friday morning. Snap into Heaven, ooh yeah...

Lady Gaga, Born This Way

We told you what we thought of this weak batch of cuts last week once it leaked. Our favorite song is still "Government Hooker," because it mentions JFK.

Foster The People, Torches: This week's indie flash in the pan. Just last week they made the ACL 2011 lineup, and last night they were on Kimmel. The tunes are good and dance-ready, so these guys may be around a bit. An American Phoenix?

The Hangover Part II: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: Danzig himself records a song "Black Hell" just for the soundtrack, and Wolfmother covers "Love Train" for the second installment of the bro-tastic franchise. Plus, Mark Lanegan takes a bite into Johnny Cash and Nick Lowe's "The Beast In Me," with winning results.

Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" is my summer anthem. Can't stop, won't stop.
