Good Friday? How about great Friday? Here at Rocks Off we try to ensure that each and every Friday our readers get a full and healthy dose of local music news set to tide them over until we return. So without further ado, we present the newest installment of Magnolia City Mixtape.
As always, let's take a look at the local show calendar. Cactus Music has a trio of appearances tomorrow, including Will Taylor with Strings Attached, Something Fierce, and Young Girls. That's six free beers if you plan right.
Jessica Lea Mayfield drops by Fitzgerald's tonight.
Omotai and Cavernous will destroy some ears at The Mink tonight.
The adorable and energetic Yelle, of France, will bounce around Fitzgerald's tomorrow night.
The Psychedelic Furs are also in town tomorrow, with a stop at Warehouse Live.
Sleigh Bells follows up the Furs with a show at Warehouse Sunday night.
Thursday, Giant Princess (above) tried to kick the pants off of the Sidekick 4G contest, and apparently they were cut short. IndieHouston has some video from the performance. We're told that the band replied with the simple answer of "poverty" when asked what inspired them to begin writing music. The crowd reportedly began to laugh, to which singer Colin Hedrick allegedly retorted, "poverty is nothing to laugh about."

A few weeks ago, Trae Tha Truth was the busiest rapper in town. Now it's Chingo Bling's turn. After his mixtape dropped last week, he's released three music videos, "Roman's Rebenge," "Dipset Freestyle" and One Deep". Plus, he's shooting another one on Sunday.
