Lil Wayne Documentary At Center Of Lawsuits

Lil Wayne is currently shooting a documentary for his I Am Music IItour, but he's come under fire for a different film. Tha Carter, a Weezy-sanctioned documentary released in 2009, is at the center of a litany of lawsuits between Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment and film production company Digerati Holdings.

Wayne sued the filmmakers in 2009 for breach of contract after the documentary screened at Sundance Film Festival. In the lawsuit, Weezy claimed that the producer failed to get his nod on some unauthorized pictures in the film.

Wayne was battling weapons and drug charges at the time, so it was important that the film depicted him in a positive light during the court trial. The Nawlins rapper even went as far as seeking an injunction to stop the movie from being shown.

Digerati filed a countersuit, claiming that Wayne breached his contract by not making himself available for press interviews. In addition, the suit claimed that Wayne's public complaint made it difficult to find a distributor. And so continued the back and forth.

Fans hungry for some backstage footage will get their fill from the upcoming I Am Music II. Cameras have been following Weezy and his Young Money cohorts around as he tours the U.S. to promote his upcoming Carter IV album, due May 16.

"I just felt like a movie like that hasn't come out in so long," Weezy told MTV.

"At that time when they put those movies out, we as the fans were interested in what they were doing on the road," the rapper said. "I think it's going to be real big."
