Kings Of Leon Return To Houston - Again - July 30
The Followill boys from Tennessee, Kings Of Leon are coming back to Houston and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on July 30, with openers Band of Horses. The date marks the first Band of Horses stop in Houston in what looks to be forever.
As for the Kings, this will be their third time in the area since last September, with the band's gig with the Black Keys that month, and their Big Dance show at Discovery Green for the Final Four earlier this month.
This will also be the band's seventh Houston show since 2003, when they came along with the Strokes that November at Verizon Wireless Theater. Subsequent dates included shows at the old Meridian, Warehouse Live, Verizon again, Toyota Center, and the previous Woodlands set since 2006. History Lesson: One of Rocks Off's first live reviews was that KOL show at Warehouse Live. We miss being able to smoke in venues, too.
The band is still promoting last year's Come Around Sundown, a departure from the big-ticket arena rock that came with 2008's Only By Night. In fact, it's more in line with 2007's Because of the Times.
Our only worry is that this band is wearing itself out into oblivion, while also proving the detractors who say most bands hate playing in Houston wrong. Five times in less than three years is a good argument that KOL is into this city, or at least our ticket sales.
Tickets go on sale May 14.
