Roc Nation descended upon Houston Friday night as Smirnoff presented rapper J.Cole as host of the grown and sexy Final Four weekend edition of Drake Fridays. The fashionable club on Washington Avenue was transformed into every bit of Jay-Z's 40/40 Club with a special guest DJ, an all-star VIP section, and a seemingly endless line of beautiful people.
The mix on the turntables was provided by legendary mixologist & producer DJ Scratch, well known as official DJ for the pioneer Hip-Hop group EPMD. Scratch recently won the "Master of the Mix" competition on BET, where he competed against six other premier DJ's, and was judged by Just Blaze and Kid Capri. The crowd responded with cheers and seductive dance moves as Scratch dropped each rump-shaking record and hood anthem.
MC Kane hyped up the crowd, moving from all parts of the room as he interacted and danced with the ladies while shouting out to J-Mac, Go DJ J-Que, and Chamillionaire, who all made their presence known to the full house.
A surprise appearance by newcomer Big K.R.I.T. created a stir in the VIP section, with equal parts "Hey, look who it is!" and "Who is that?" reactions. Word is that his performance earlier that night at Warehouse Live was a great success and included guest spots by Bun B and Killa Kyleon.
Also in attendance at The Drake were several NCAA men's basketball players, including Nolan Smith from Duke, Gilbert Brown and Brad Wanamaker from Pitt, and others from Butler and VCU.
