SXSW: The Kills At Stubb's SPIN Party Friday Afternoon

Even though the beginning of their set was fraught with technical issues, the Kills turned in a heated set, in more ways than one, under the big top at Stubb's for SPIN magazine's annual day party.

The duo, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, have been somewhat inactive the past two years or so as Mosshart took on vocal duties for Jack White's group, The Dead Weather. Seeing her with the DW and the Kills, you will see two very different personalities. We have actually been spoiled seeing her so unbridled with the DW's that her Kills work now seems tame in comparison.

Even still, The Kills remain dynamite, gritty, sexy, slithery rock and roll. It's the teasing interplay between Mosshart and Hince that is the key to their dynamic. Their Emo's set the night before was a quickly-packed affair as well. The new material from the upcoming Blood Pressures was worth waiting around for at Stubb's, with the album coming over three years after their last disc, 2008's Midnight Boom.
