This evening, Houston's Picture Book will headline a tribute to former local musician Stephen Adams, a member of the Dreambreakers who passed away from chronic pulmonary disease last month.

Adams, 57, suffered a stroke in 2005 and had been living in a rehabilitation center in E. St. Louis, Ill., since 2006, also played in several other local bands, including Vanylla Myst, the Warped Factor, Alec Sanders' Rag Band Time, the Seven and Tesseract. The Dreambreakers won Best Cover Band in the 2002 Houston Press Music Awards.

According to his cousin, Charlotte Weaver, tributes to Adams have been pouring in from several people, including his high school friend Dave Blassingame, who credited him with the idea for the live orchestral recreations of Beatles albums Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. The performance of Abbey Road May 28 at Discovery Green will be dedicated to Adams' memory.

Tonight's tribute show at the Pachinko Hut on the Continental Club patio is free, and Adams' family asks that people please remember him by donating to the Musicians' Benevolent Society of Houston.

Interesting.

The Musicians Benevolent Society of Houston!!

This might be the group that can provide (group) medical insurance someday for local musicians at a huge savings.

I was wondering if Stephen Adams could be my cousin. It made no mention in the paper, but the Steve Adams I knew had produced Jesus Christ Superstar at San Jacinto Junior college sometime in the early Sixties..If you have any info please e-mail Mark Anderson at leadarrow@aol.com

I just ran across this website while searching for Steve on the net.  Sorry to hear about his passing.  I recorded his shows Superstar and Tommy back in the 70s. I then ran into him a couple of times after that.   Very talented and nice guy.

He was 57 years old so he was born sometime around 1954.
