Recasting MTV's Daria With Real-Life Musicians

There was once a brighter time in the history of MTV when the network occasionally played interesting animated series and occasionally even music videos. Now, instead of Daria, there's Snooki; instead of Beavis and Butt-Head, there's The Situation and Pauly D.

Growing up, Daria (1997-2002) was one of our favorite shows, even if we didn't understand all of the jokes. Rocks Off truly feels sorry for the youth who don't have an apathetic, caustic animated role model like Daria to help them question the culture and trivialities of high school and pop culture.

It's always been a pleasure of ours to compare real-life characters to Daria, so we've gathered up a list of musicians who closely represent each personality that made up our beloved show.

Daria Morgendorffer: Cynical, sardonic high-school outcast; star of the show.

Alanis Morissette: There are a few artists who could probably bear a strong resemblance to Daria - the obvious dark-haired, vision-impaired choice would've been Lisa Loeb - but Morissette embodies what we believe Daria could have grown up to be.

Jane-mar22.jpg
Jane Lane: Painter and Daria's well-adjusted best friend who often makes brief run-ins with mainstream culture and frequently hangs out with her older brother and his band.

Jana Hunter: Jana is a Houston native, ex-Star Pizza employee, and now lead singer of the Baltimore-based band Lower Dens. She's laid-back, has a low-pitched voice, and a good sense of humor; she could balance out Alanis pretty well.

Trent Lane: Jane's older brother, lead singer of Mystik Spiral and Generation X slacker.

Trent Reznor: It was always assumed that Trent's character was loosely based on the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails. In this 1994 interview, Reznor discusses his album The Downward Spiral. Coincidence? Probably not.

I like the "Daria" joke on this season of Robot Chicken.

Thank you for feeling sorry for my generation (class of 2012). It really sucks.

I think there would be better comparisons if you didn't limit them just to musicians, but it's a cool idea anyway. Did you know Daria has a GPS voice? Hysterical! > http://www.navtones.com/daria-...
