According to Houston's KHOU-TV, Tennessee studs Kings of Leon will play a free show at Discovery Green from 12-4 p.m. the afternoon of Saturday, April 2, as part of the Final Four weekend festivites as the NCAA men's basketball championship returns to Houston for the first time since 1971.

Well, that ought not to be crazy, right? Rocks Off was looking for something to do that day anyway, since we don't have a prayer of getting a ticket to the Final Four itself. And we trust Channel 11, because the station's parent network CBS is the one televising the Final Four. Here's a big clue why, from the station's report:

Kings of Leon's song, "The Immortals," will be at the center of a multi-platform marketing campaign to promote the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

Other artists for the "Big Dance" concert series, which runs Friday through Sunday of Final Four weekend, will be announced soon. Or you can just watch CBS' college basketball coverage and see what other songs they're using to portray the agony of victory and the thrill of defeat.

Wait a second...

The band was awesome and I LOVED that they played some of their old tunes!

Better bring some hawks to keep all the pigeons away.

I'm guessing they're probably playing on a stage set up on a closed off street (Avenida de las Americas?) beside Discovery Green as opposed to in the park itself.

Let's hope so. Cause if not, the Green ain't gonna be so green after all those people get done trampling on it.
