30 Seconds With Cowboy Mouth's Fred LeBlanc

Rocks Off sat down with Cowboy Mouth drummer and lead singer Fred LeBlanc to see what we could learn about the legendary New Orleans rock band - "Jenny Says" is still one of our top 20 songs - in 30 seconds.

Fred LeBlanc: I don't like to put too much negative stuff out there, there's enough of that in the world. Besides, most of what I think is crap tends to be guided by aggressive marketing that is designed to make people think that shit is actually steak.

Also, music is very subjective. People enjoy different songs for all kinds of reasons that have nothing to do with qualitative issues...it's hard to hate the tune that you lose your cherry to, right?

RO: What is the best lyric in the world?

FL: The Beatles, "All you need is love." Simple. Pure poetry.

FL: Stop the show and throw the bum out simply because if this person throws a beer at the lead singer, God only knows what he'll do to one of my audience members. These people come see Cowboy Mouth to cut loose, not to be messed with.

RO: Without worrying about space, time, or the laws of physics, what is the ultimate gig?

FL: Cowboy Mouth, Mardi Gras night, House of Blues. Just show up and you'll [understand] why.

RO: What would you buy with a million dollars?

FL: $998,000 worth of Mardi Gras beads, then spend the other $2K on parade dues and be the most awesome and generous rider in Carnival history!

RO: What would you buy with your last dollar?

FL: A ride on the St. Charles Ave. streetcar in New Orleans on a beautiful spring day, with the windows wide open.

RO: If you could canonize another musician, who would it be and of what would they be the patron saint?

FL: Bo Diddley - Patron saint of rhythm. Gimme some rhythm, gimme some rhythm...
