Placing Rappers With The Proper Charity, Because We Care

The hip-hop world is a less than sensible place - lots of times, you're even required to clarify when bad means bad and when bad means good - so once a week we're going to get with a rapper and ask them to explain things. Have something you always wanted to ask a rapper? Email it to

This Week's Rapper: K-Yung

This Week's Subject: Charitably charitable rappers

Ask A Rapper: So, Mr. Yung, perhaps you've not heard, but Master P has teamed up with Michelle Obama to help fight childhood obesity. Now, this is ironic for a couple of reasons. P used to refer to himself as the Ice Cream Man and has worked with anti-hunger charities, but let's circle it back to Houston.

Here's what we'll do. We'll throw some charities at you, and you tell us which Houston rappers should spearhead their campaigns in Houston. Also, give a one- or two-sentence explanation why you picked them.

Make sense? Awesome. Here we go.

AAR: Who should head the Help Fight Homelessness campaign? Why?

K-Yung: I say Trae*. The reason why is because he's one of Houston's most giving-back artists and always doing something for this community, whether its kids or inmates that's doing time. I know he would know what to do.

* Note: The last time we saw Trae in person, he was giving homeless people pizza and featuring them in his music video.

AAR: Who should head the Battered Women's campaign? Why?

K: I would have to say Beyonce. She's the queen of Houston and she is the only* good female role model for Houston females. Anything she would do, the people will pay attention to.

* Before you get all fired up and leave some exclamation-heavy comment, take a second. Of course she's not the only good female role model in Houston, but you understand what he's saying.
