Arcade Fire Headed To Houston May 4 For Pavilion Date

Arcade Fire is finally heading to Houston on May 4 for a date up at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, in the Woodlands. Last Sunday the band played upsetters at the Grammys winning the award for Album Of The Year for their album The Suburbs which was based on frontman Win Butler's childhood in the Woodlands in the '80s and '90s.

Opening for Arcade Fire in May will be Austin post-rockers Explosions In The Sky. Other openers on this spring tour included Local Natives, The National, and Okkervil River, but Houston snagged the leg with EITS.

This will be Arcade Fire's only third appearance in Houston since forming. The band previously played Mary Jane's Fat (now Pearl Bar) in June 2004 and January 2005 while touring behind Funeral. No word yet on a date for when tickets go on sale, but stay tuned to Rocks Off and our Twitter feed over at @hprocksoff.

In 2004 they opened up for The Unicorns at Walters. Then played Fat Cats with Final Fantasy opening which is the moniker of Owen Pallett who plays violin from time to time for Arcade.The next time they played Texas was at Stubb's during Hurricane Rita then 2007 ACL. NEXT WOODLANDS! It'll be my 5th time to see them! Can't wait!

I worked the show at Walters, the lineup was Ume, Arcade Fire, Fiery Furnaces and the Unicorns in that order. Great show. Hands Up Houston put it on. We turned away quite a few people at the door. Don't think anyone had any idea who Arcade Fire was at the time, people were really digging on the Unicorns Lp "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?"
