Chanel Dizzle: Screwed Up Click Star In The Making
UPDATE (1:42 p.m.): Chanel just got in touch. She's a 22-year-old UT senior. We'll have a full interview with her soon.
We didn't set out for this to turn into "teenage girl week" on Rocks Off, but we're not complaining either. It's even kind of appropriate, since we're also celebrating the birthday of one of the greatest teen idols who ever lived, Elvis Presley.
First we brought you one Musically Oblivious Eighth Grader's thoughts on several of the local music scene's leading artists, and then we shone the Artist of the Week spotlight on Katy country-pop up-and-comer Mary Sarah, who is all of 15.
Now, even though we're not 100 percent sure she's a teenager, Rocks Off thinks we have found someone who trumps them both. This morning, both of our eagle-eyed rap writers emailed us separately about Chanel Dizzle, a young woman who has recently begun posting her versions of some of the Screwed Up Click's greatest hits.
Like we said, we don't have a lot of information about who Ms. Chanel is. She looks to be in her late teens or very early 20s and, in the video for Big Moe's "Barre Baby," says she's in Houston on Thanksgiving break, which leads us to believe she may be a college student... somewhere.
It doesn't really matter, though. What does matter is that Chanel is obviously a true-blue fan of classic draped-up and dripped-out Houston rap. So far she's posted covers of Lil Flip's "The Way We Ball" and the late Big Moe's "Barre Baby" and "Just a Dog" (above).
Girl can sing her ass off, and she doesn't miss a word. So Chanel, if you happen to be reading this, please get in touch. We'd like to hear more from you, and soon.
