Wu-Tang, Meridian, Numbers, Etc. Put In Perspective

Rocks Off is following our sister Houston Press blogs into the choppy waters of "Comment of the Day," choosing a comment or a handful of comments from the previous day we find especially enlightening, infuriating or just plain hilarious. We're glad our readers have opinions, whatever they are, about what we write, and encourage them to keep 'em coming.

Even a week after we posted it, Marc Brubaker's blog about the most recent problems at Meridian The Venue Formerly Known As Meridian, Now Possibly Called The Capitol, But Who The Hell Really Knows? is still drawing comments. And it took an entire week, but Monday Garrison Shields may have finally put the whole thing in perspective.

Whether or not his or her name really is Garrison, only he or she knows for sure. Considering many other commenters on Marc's blog have chosen names like "Whistle Blower," "gonorrheaction," "Fact Checker," "Promoter" and just plain "Anonymous" (or "Anon"), we're a little skeptical.

On the other hand, Garrison's comment is so insightful and succinct that it may actually be his real name.

Take it away, Garrison:

Just wanted to show some gratitude for Numbers for picking up the Wu-Tang show. When the old saying "The show must go on" seems so fitting, Numbers made it happen. The real story here isn't so much that Meridian is going to ass so much as there are some great venues here in Houston that pick up the slack and make it happen for us.

There are some older venues that are getting new life under the shadow that Meridian casts. Fitzgerald's is selling out shows now. Numbers, it needs to be said, is getting some great events. House of Blues has been a real boon (although, holy CRAP at the drink prices lol) and so many others!

Any place that doesn't get their act right will simply get shuffled out of the deck in due time. The scene takes notes of these things and is a hell of a lot more cohesive here in Houston than meets the eye.

Well done, Garrison. The only nitpicky thing we can say is that My Onstage Events put on the show and Numbers was available, but that's splitting hairs at this point. We were there, and we have to agree with many other folks who said it was well worth staying up until 2 a.m. on a Sunday night/Monday morning.

Rocks Off will have more developments in this whole unfolding Meridian/Capitol/whatever story soon. We're almost sure of it.
