John Lennon And Dimebag Darrell: Together In Death
On this day in 1980, Mark David Chapman shot and killed former Beatle John Lennon. On the same day in 2004, Nathan Gale shot and killed Darrell Abbott, aka Dimebag Darrell of Pantera.
In the spirit of the famous Lincoln/Kennedy coincidences list, which is mostly bullshit, here is a list for two of our favorite guitarists. Bear in mind, you could write a book about the things Dimebag and Lennon don't have in common, but there are some pretty interesting correlations between them.
John Lennon, "Watching the Wheels"
- Both men were guitarists.
- "Beatles" and "Pantera" have the same number of letters.
- Both band names are alternative spellings of animal names.
- Both bands had founding members leave before making it big; Beatles bassist Stuart Sutcliffe left the band in 1961 to return to art school, and vocalist Donnie Hart left Pantera in 1982 after an ethics disagreement.
