Kennedy Bakery: 30 Seconds With Erin Rodgers
Rocks Off sat down with guitarist and vocalist Erin Rodgers of Kennedy Bakery to find out what we could learn about her in 30 seconds.
Kennedy Bakery at Rudyard's, July 2010
RO: What is the worst song in the world?
ER: I'm a lyrics girl, so I'm going to go with "Whenever, Wherever" by Shakira. It's a catchy song, and she's hot, but the line "Lucky that my breasts are small and humble/ So you don't confuse them with mountains" gets me every time. Oh, those are your boobs? I thought you were yelling at me from across the Alps. My mistake.
RO: What is the best lyric in the world?
ER: Probably "I'm hot cause I'm fly/ You ain't cause you not," by that venerable wordsmith MIMS. The level of circular reasoning involved is awesome because of its awesomeness.
RO: Someone throws a beer bottle at you. What do you do?
ER: Onstage? We'd have to bust out our version of "Rawhide."
RO: Without worrying about time, space, or physical laws, what would be the ultimate gig?
ER: For Kennedy Bakery, I don't know. Any gig where people like us is good enough for me. However, on a side note, I would like to create a hobo music symphony. There would be a saw section, a harmonica section and a cigar-box guitar section. And of course, someone has to play the washtub bass. No really, let's do this.
RO: What will you buy with your first million dollars?
ER: First of all, the instruments we want but can't afford: A theremin for me, a hurdy-gurdy for James, new drums (and new Converse) for Jenny, some fancy-pants keyboard for Justine, a new mic for Rachelle, and a gem-encrusted tambourine for Stephanie. Then we'd take that shit on tour.
RO: What would you buy with your last dollar?
ER: A Frosty.
RO: If you could canonize another musician as a saint, who would it be and for what would they be the patron saint?
ER: Instead, can we make Tom Waits the devil? I mean that as a compliment; he did a great job as the devil in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.
Kennedy Bakery plays Dean's Credit Clothing (316 Main) tonight. Their new EP, Historical Fiction, is available at their Web site.
