Remember Big Pokey's Warning Shot?

Houston's history is dotted with albums that, fairly or un, have been swept aside. We'll examine them here. Have an album that you think nobody knows about but should? Email sheaserrano@gmail.com.

Big Pokey
Warning Shot (Oarfin Records, 2010)

Ah, Mr. Croc Bull, perhaps the most underappreciated S.U.C. member of all time. Name two boxes on the Houston Rap Checklist he doesn't fill in. He raps, he sings, he freestyles. He churns out regional smashes and can periodically go into beast mode on guest verses, he's husky-voiced (fat) and he wears really big all-white and all-black tees. How did he never become huge here?

Y'allmustaforgotability: 94 percent

We didn't realize how many great songs Pokey had in his catalog until we saw him perform and he did several of them concurrently. And those were the hits. He just sort of blends his greatness into the background. That's, no doubt, why he's secured such a loyal fan base, but it's also kind of why it never really grew too much larger than it is now.

Read what Y'allmustaforgotability means.

Best Song on the Album: His redo of Waka Flocka's "Oh Let's Do It"

Everyone - everyone - jumped on this track when it came out, and we've still yet to find three guys who got after it like Pokey did. He does his slow thing, his fast thing and his mumbly-mouthed thing - which is more a result of him trying to hustle his natural slow manner of action than it is a trick, but still.

The only question we have: Does he say "Flaka Flaka" at the beginning of it? What's that about?

Song on the Album That Was Better Than It Probably Should've Been: "Love Ones" feat. Keke and Hawk

At this point, anything with a Hawk verse on it automatically earns three stars. Securing those last two stars depends on the production and the other performers. This one managed to sneak up to a 4.25 star song rating.

Best Line on the Album: Via Keke on the aforementioned "Love Ones"

"Me and baby, two kids; that's 12 meals a day."

That's a pretty insane way to look at it. That means the Jon and Kate plus 8 family was doing at least 30 meals. Holy Christ. No wonder he left. Have you ever tried to make 30 cans of Spaghetti-O's?

Obscure Fact(s) You Can Pawn Off As Your Own To Make Yourself Look Smart:

• Someone named Richard Cheever is on Twitter using the name Big Pokey. The real Big Pokey is on there too (@BigPokeySUC).

Remember this? Sicko. That has to be put into the Houston Rap Archives.
